What Syllaboss is, how it follows the class calendar, whether the math is right, family accounts, pricing and privacy. Longer reads live in the guides.

What it is

▸What is Syllaboss?

Syllaboss is a practice app for grades 5–8 that follows your child’s actual class. A parent (or the teacher) adds the class from the teacher’s website, a syllabus, a photo of the agenda or a textbook pick; Syllaboss lines the lessons up with the class calendar and turns each day into short games: review of what was taught earlier, this week’s lesson, and a sneak peek at what’s next. Every unit test becomes a boss fight scheduled before the real one.

▸Which grades and subjects does it cover?

Grades 5–8. Today the deepest coverage is 7th-grade math (hand-built problem generators for every Amplify Desmos Math 7 / Illustrative Math 7 skill) and first-year French (vocabulary, noun gender, numbers, être/avoir/aller/faire and regular -er verbs). Other classes are built by our curriculum builder from the teacher’s materials, with every AI-written question independently checked before a kid sees it.

▸How is this different from IXL, Khan Academy or Prodigy?

Those teach a generic grade level. Syllaboss practices the specific lessons your child’s teacher is teaching this week, in the teacher’s order, on the teacher’s dates, and treats the real unit test date as the deadline. Review is weighted to what is slipping and to spaced-repetition due dates, so ten minutes a day lands exactly where it helps.

How it works

▸How do you know what the class is doing this week?

From the class calendar. When a class is added from a teacher site or agenda, the dated lessons come from the materials; anything without a date is spread across the term and clearly labelled “estimated”. Teachers who post an updated agenda see the calendar re-sync. Parents can also join a class another parent already built, using the class code.

▸Are the math answers correct?

Yes. Math problems come from our own generators that compute the answer, so a right answer is never marked wrong. Questions our AI writes for other subjects are solved a second time independently before they go live; disputed ones are held back.

▸What is the built-in tutor?

After a kid answers a question and misses it, they can tap “Explain it another way”. The tutor looks at the exact answer they gave, names the mix-up (a flipped ratio, le instead of la), walks through it in a few short steps and offers a fresh example. It only works on a question the kid has already answered, and there is no open-ended chat.

▸What is Homework Scan?

A kid photographs tonight’s worksheet; Syllaboss matches it to the skills in their class and builds a practice game on exactly those skills. The photo is read and discarded, never stored, and the app never solves the homework itself.

▸Does it work on a phone?

Yes. Syllaboss runs in any browser on a phone, tablet, Chromebook or laptop, and can be installed to the home screen like an app. Kids sign in with a player code and PIN; parents sign in with email.

Families

▸Can both parents see the same kid?

Yes. One family account covers up to four grown-ups (co-parents, a grandparent, a sitter) and up to five kids. The owner shares an invite link or sends it by email; everyone sees the same kids, classes and reports, and the plan belongs to the family, so nobody pays twice.

▸What does it cost?

Family Plus is $79 per school year (the School Year Pass) or $9 per month, with a 14-day free trial — a card is required to start it, and it covers the whole family: every grown-up and up to five kids, unlimited classes, every game and boss fight, building classes from any syllabus, the AI tutor, Homework Scan, test-readiness alerts and the weekly parent report. Without Plus, one kid can join a class another family or a teacher built and play the Daily Quest and two arcade games, free. Teachers always use Syllaboss free.

Teachers & schools

▸How does a school or district buy it?

At syllaboss.app/schools/plan: pick the school or district, enter the number of students ($6 per student per year, from a single classroom to a whole district), and pay by card or ask for an invoice with 30-day terms for a purchase order. Every family with a kid at that school gets Family Plus immediately, and every teacher gets the class dashboard.

▸What do teachers get?

A free class built from your own calendar or materials, a join code for families, and a dashboard: a skills-by-students heatmap, who is ready for the next test, who is stuck on what, tomorrow’s warm-up and the most-missed skills. You only ever see students enrolled in a class you created.

▸Do you work with districts?

Yes, through a pilot program: district → school → class structure, Google sign-in for student accounts, rostering, admin dashboards by standard, and a signed student data privacy agreement. School and district pricing is per student per year.

Privacy

▸What do you collect about my child?

As little as possible: a first name, last initial, grade, optional school, a hashed PIN and game progress. No birthdays, photos, location or contacts. Leaderboards show a first name and last initial only, and can be switched off. No ads, no data sales, deletion on request. The full list is on our student data privacy page.

Practice that follows your kid’s real class.

Add the class from the teacher’s site or a photo of the agenda. Syllaboss lines it up with the calendar and turns each day into ten minutes of games, with the unit test as a boss fight before the real one.
